The prize was first awarded in 2011, under the High Patronage of the President of the European Council.

The prize is organised annually by the association “Civisme Défense Armées Nation” (CiDAN), together with the European Interparliamentary Security and Defence Association, and with the support of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The French Embassy in Berlin kindly hosts the Award Ceremony, in the framework of the Berlin Security Conference, organised by the leading German publisher ProPress.

In 2016, the principal partner is again the International Society for Military Ethics in Europe.

CiDAN, according to French 1901 law about Associations is non-lucrative. It has been founded in 1970 and primarily intended to promote the links between civilian society and military defence, as well as economic and civil defence. It seeks today to promote all activities contributing to social cohesion and enhancing the "living together" in the same country and continent.
